    'Jim tells Sonny that people
    who know the stars
can find their way in the dark.

The Horse, the Stars, and the Road is a stunning watercolour picture book.

The other kids in Sonny's class have cool things to bring into school. Not Sonny. He can't think of anything really good.

But then Uncle Jim takes Sonny on an amazing road trip – in a horse-drawn wagon. Sonny learns loads of exciting stuff with Uncle Jim, real grown-up skills.

And that's not all. Sonny's uncle has made something very special for him. Sonny can't wait to bring it into school!

"An absolute delight. A book for every home." – The Sunday Times

"Lucy Kelly-Desmond’s illustrations beautifully accompany this heart-warming tale about identity: realistic and detailed, the pencil drawings also convey a sense of magic and wonder, which particularly shines in the fire-lit camp scenes."  – Ireland's Big Issue

"A great introduction to a culture less known in the US."  – All Done Monkey

"The illustrations are like paintings with intricate, intimate details ...This is a rather special, unique story." – Youth Services Book Review

Lucy Kelly-Desmond  studied Textile Design at the Centre for Creative Arts and Media, Galway (Ireland) followed by a course in children’s book illustration at UAL, Chelsea School of Art.  She lives near Ballinasloe in Ireland, where Europe’s oldest horse fair takes place every October.  From observing one of Ireland’s last tinsmiths at the fair, an idea for a story was formed.  This is her first picture book.

    Heartwarming story, beautifully illustrated

This is a wonderful story, which gives centre stage to the rich world of Traveller culture. The illustrations are magical and my 5 year old granddaughter loved it. Every school and library in Ireland should have this book. Well done Lucy.
